Paul, the answer to that question depends on one’s perspective. THE OPC is the ONLY PURE CHURCH, but the PCA is the PUREST CHURCH OF ALL.
Let me give you objective facts first.
OPC founded 1937 as a split from the Northern United Presbyterian Church.
PCA founded in 1973 as a split from Southern Presbyterian Church United States.
The two remaining larger denominations merged together. They had previously split during the Civil War.
Now this is more opinion, but pretty safe to say. OPC is Northern culture, created during a time when people saw Christian faith declining. PCA is Southern culture, when evangelicalism and Jesus movement was enjoying rapid rise in numbers. These formed the OPC and PCA personalities to be quite different.
They do hold to the same Confessions of faith, and have lots of similarities, but the PCA has a wider band of diversity than the OPC. The PCA has more celebrity-pastors, ministries, etc. R.C. Sproul, D.James Kennedy, etc. Nothing like that in the OPC.
