Sorrow can be alleviated by good sleep, a bath and a glass of wine. — St Thomas Aquinas.

Gestas & St. Dismas: A Fresh Perspective

Richard has made an interesting observation in a tweet:

Luke 23 – The thief who asked Jesus to save him was not saved. The one who merely asked to be remembered was saved. Interesting.

This is indeed an interesting observation, but I’m not sure I agree with it. I always read this passage as being about someone who believes in Jesus and puts his hope in His saving power (the second thief), vs. someone who did not believe in Jesus and was really just mocking Him (the first thief).

So is Richard right — is this passage about asking to be saved vs. asking to be remembered? What do you all think?
