We must return to proclaiming powerfully and joyfully the event of Christ's death and Resurrection, heart of Christianity, principal fulcrum of our faith, powerful lever of our certainty, impetuous wind that sweeps away every fear and indecision, every doubt and human calculation. — B16

Matthew

Funny you quote that. I used that video clip in my sermon Sunday. In fact it was the lead to the cup in communion. I have never used a video in my life during communion but after three months of thinking and working with that clip/story I just couldn’t make it my own. It was powerful. As we Nazarenes like to say, “God came.”

I think I have observed that the time it takes for something to hit the church new till it becomes meaningless and trite is getting shorter and shorter. “Gospel” has taken less time to become a buzz word than even emergent. I’m not saying the BHT guys are using it as a buzz word. I seems that the discussion keeps going around because you all are trying to reclaim it with integrity.

I would offer that I don’t seem to hear any one address the fact that Jesus came preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God. I keep thinking that the good news is more expansive than the cross but I guess I’m missing something.
